some blog updates & a thank you to blogs that inspire me
i probably spent around eight hours from the last couple of days tinkering around my blog. note that they were weekdays. i barely slept but i thank this specific hyperfixation of overhauling my blog for keeping my sanity intact.
i said i wanted some change in my last post, retracted it, but then ended up doing so anyway. the voices in my head had many complaints about my blog (that i share too much, that i write either like a robot or a hyperventilating typewriter — there’s no in between, that my color palette is too happy for my depressed state, etc etc). turns out going to your css page and pressing cmd + a then delete could shut them all up.
here are some changes i did in the past two days:
- as mentioned, stripped off my archie theme1 and started over
- settled on a simple / basic color palette using the bearming theme
- manually changed all my published posts to have lowercase texts2. i know, i could’ve just used text transform. but that proved to be too complicated for posts that require me to write scientific names of species + initials of my friends
- filtered my blog page by year
- completely removed my guestbook, about me page, and public links to my other social accounts. i feel more secure that way. i’ve instead added a contact page where my email is shared
- some minor edits on my tags and now page
while editing, i realized how much of my blog was and still is inspired by other blogs i regularly read (plus the OGs i looked up to when i was just starting), so i wanted to give thanks!
from before: the idea of having a tagging system came from inch’s blog. i discovered and learned how to customize the toast button through red. i used to have an “old computer” font (PS/55) which was inspired by sylvia’s magnolias, winter. and i’ve mentioned about how much i love ribo.zone’s mecha page !!!
now: my current theme is from robert birming. the basic color palette is inspired by midnight (and also tala). the idea to sort my blogs by year came from tb’s blog.
most of my add-ons came from the bear blog library. sending a huge thank you to robert!
i have an entire blogroll page but the blogs i really enjoy reading as of late (and are motivating me to keep writing) are skuka, midnight, gabby, tb, chloe, occultish, ying xue, and red. from the bottom of my shabby, worm-eaten, and scabrous3 heart, thank you!!!
that is all! i'm only around 60% done, so going back to tinkering...
which had been my base theme ever since i started bearblogging :( thank you for your service, archie↩
i’ve always wanted to do this. but also, i read that infamous hate post on lowercase blogging via skuka's reply. so maybe 2% of this decision was out of spite↩
this is a reference to cardan greenbriar's quote. nothing to do with this post, i just randomly remembered and missed him when i typed 'heart'↩
