weeknotes 9

may 10-16, 2026

hello, friends.

i’ve been wanting to make some changes with how i write and deliver my weeknotes. i think i’ll experiment for a bit and attempt at delivering it through letters instead. perhaps my lack of journaling caused this itch (‘journal entries: 0’ for the last few weeks.)

i want to make it less robotic and a little bit more personal. like someone updating a friend through letters. because who knows? maybe that friend is a future me who would really appreciate future past me for writing to her.

i started my first job ever last week. as mentioned in my previous blog post, i somehow landed a job in our government’s science & tech department. for context, the same department under their science education agency gave me a scholarship throughout my entire four years of undergraduate studies. it was a massive help. they’ve also hosted seminars and training camps, which, we scholars would half jokingly say increase our patriotism (a very difficult thing to have, living in this country).

anyway, that department’s health research agency hired me for whatever reason. five of us were chosen (assigned to different divisions) amongst a total of eighteen shortlisted applicants. i was assigned where i wanted to be! i won’t go into too much details, but know that i’m happily in my preferred field of medical microbiology (with a mix of policy, science communication, and research management). my best friend noted how it’s kind of like eva stratt’s job, but with more science.

it’s a bit silly but i got most excited during the onboarding process when they told me i could request for stationery and other office supplies (i’m a simple girl with simple needs.)

my first week was spent mostly spinning on my swivel chair, shadowing, attending and observing meetings, feeling confused, and eating lunch with my fellow rookies, H and N. they’re unfortunately assigned to other divisions so we only really see each other at lunch.

i guess it’s also important to mention that the s&t compound is only 10 minutes away from my house. it’s even walkable, if i’m feeling up for it. i think those three factors (no commute, dream workplace, dream role) really make me feel so, so blessed to have this job as my first.

media i've consumed this week:

new things i've tried:

journal entries: 0

times i went outside the house: 4
