cafe review: what about coffee?

Sometime after our graduation, my best friend Addie and I met up at QC to have my water-damaged iPad fixed. Now, I don't remember if we've chosen What About Coffee? before meeting up, or if it's a result of a quick "nearest coffee shop" Google search (it has happened), but we ended up going there.

It was one of the coziest coffee shops I've been to, but also on the pricier side (given that it's located in Loyola Heights). There was some soft jazz music playing inside. Almost all the seats were taken when we got there, but it was still quiet and peaceful.

We ended up settling temporarily on a table in the middle of the shop. Next to us were two booths with green, cozy couches. A family of three was eating there. On the other side, a group of friends was studying - complete with laptop stands and neon highlighters. It made me miss cramming on coffee shops, even though it has only been exactly a month since we've marched.

The scent of eucalyptus from the table decor was something I immediately noted. There were also warm lamps placed on each one.

I honestly don't remember the names of the drinks we ordered. But mine was something with Biscoff, and Addie's was something with strong coffee. On that day, we thought of setting up an Instagram account to review cafes we visit. Addie wrote down their ratings (ambiance, coffee, place, even restroom vibes) on a piece of tissue, which I believe I've kept, but is now missing. My memory can't be 100% trusted, but I think the coffee was okay. A bit pricier than what I'd normally spend on dessert coffee, though we're mostly paying for the place.

In the very rare occurrence that we're both reading the same book, Addie and I brought our copies of The Secret History. Theirs was the gorgeous black UK cover, and mine was the US edition (I think?).

After the family had gone, we moved to their table and read some more. Sometimes we'd pause to talk about the book, specifically Henry and Bunny's relationship, and discuss how Multo by Cup of Joe was a very fitting song for them. I even wrote down some of the lyrics on the side of my book.

Looking back at the photos now, it's quite a bummer that I didn't get to try their pasty.

Here are my ratings based on my incredible1 memory:

Ambiance: 4 โ˜…
Drinks: 3.5 โ˜…
